You know I had a birthday in the beginning of May and when I got the opportunity to buy a Blythe doll from a woman in a Facebook group I took the chance in a heartbeat.. Maybe a little too quickly.. But I thought it would make a perfect birthday gift for myself =)
The woman I bought it from bought it from Japan, were they said it was a second quality doll. Her eyes had a hard time staying up. I unscrewed the head and my husband and I saw that there was missing a spring. And the eye mechanism doesn't work like a charm... You have to really pull hard and at a different direction than it should. She is also missing the ring to the pull string. And her body most be a copie, it's not marked Takara, and it has a screw on top... But the head is marked Takara, but it might be parts in it that's not.
I started to google Blythe dolls and quickly found out there are lots of "factory dolls" out there... http://www.222am.org/avoiding-fake-blythe-dolls-ebay-list-known-counterfeit-blythe-dolls/
This most be one of these. I was a bit disappointed, I had no idea such things existed. Especially since it's missing parts and have a stiff unbendable body. But I did get it to a better price and I knew there was something wrong with the eyes.
Like I said my friend Anna bought a Blythe herself a few days ago, and she gave me a link and now I was very close to buying another one, at Aliexpress they are really cheep, but they are most certainly factory dolls too, but they look like they have all parts and a better body, and when you know before you buy that they can be "fake" you wont (at least I think so) get disappointed with the doll when it arrives. So I might want another one ;) I think I'm getting hooked already.... But I have to remember we have no space for them and I have a LOT (too many) Barbie dolls already. But I am a doll lover =)
I had a great friend, she was even a member of my family, she loved Blythe dolls. But she died, and never get to own one herself. Every time I see a Blythe doll I think of her. And when I saw this one, I knew I had to have it =) It's not like she looks just like her, but still there is something about her that really makes me think of her. I think its the hair, maybe the lips too. So this doll will be my memory of a fantastic person who died way too early!!
I would have loved it if the doll had all parts, but I hope to fix her and I really like her anyway =) So over all it was a great deal that I'm happy I made.
You want to see my doll? =) Well she is still unscrewed, but here you go:
Pink eyelids
I like these blue eyes the best =)
Purple eyes
Green eyes
At last, yellow eyes
I hope to work on her soon and attach the head again =) But right now I'm busy with my Fantasy roombox =) Hope to show more of that soon.
I also found this mini Blythe boxes to print yourself, so now my dollhouse has a Blythe doll in a box =)
Hannah
Hi Hannah, I love those Japanese dolls, I had my eye on one a few years ago, but I decided to just look at them online, as I have no room for anymore anything :D A bit disappointing for you that the Blythe is a fake, but she is still lovely regardless, as you say. I think she does the job. So sorry to hear about your friend too, I'm glad the doll reminds you of her.
ReplyDeleteSarah :)
There are some really great pictures online, peolpe put dolls in wonderful scenes and photograph, I wont be able to do that, I'm no photographer, but I just love dolls =) I hope to get her some nice clothes in the future, but first I need to come up with a way to keep those eyes open, even when I screw her back together again =)
DeleteHi Hannah! Very beautiful Dolls, new to me! Thank you for intoduction!
ReplyDeleteBlue eyes are my favourite :) I Love the tiny minidollboxes, thank you for the link.
About our swap: I am sorry to say that I have been so buzy these days: almost no time for minis... Do you mind if I ask for the time in August, for us to have the swap together?
Hugs
Kikka
Thanks Kikka!
DeleteI wouldn't mine a little more time too, let's talk swap in August instead =)
Hope you are having a nice summer!! We have had a cold summer so far, but its getting better, I hope =)
Thank you Hannah!
DeleteYes, we have been havin a pretty cpld period here also! Let's hope for sunnier and warmer days for everybody!

Hello Hannah. I love your doll with the short hair cut no matter if she's not an original. I hope you'll find a way to keep her eyes open, maybe glue them in place.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the link to the cute printies.
Hugs, Drora
Thank you, I do love her even if she is not an original, but I think the head might be, just the body that is unmarked. There should be a spring to keep the eyes open, but maybe I can make one myself, or use a rubber band, so that she can both shut and open her eyes =)
DeleteThis might surprise you - but I'm a bear's person... *LOL* So this was interesting for me, especially what inner values are hidden in this kind of dolls. I'm sorry that this wasn't what you had expected, but if you like it anyway and if even reminds you of a good friend you lost then I think all turned out well. And yes - the blue eyes are my favourite, too... the green ones almost scared me! *grin* Maybe you should use them for your fantasy project... ;O)

Birgit
Yes, it worked out well after all =)
DeleteI did sew a bear once, so I have seen the inside of a bear head too, its a bit different, no eye-mechanisms there =) I think her eyes over all are a bit to bright and scary, but the blue ones are quite nice =) Maybe I dare to change the rest of the eyes in the future, paint over them or something..
Im happy that you got your doll, I should show you mine I have two Barbie Fashionista's.I couldn't afford a Tonner doll so I figure Babs is the next best thing, I hope you get a real Blythe
ReplyDeleteHugs
Marisa
I do have a lot of Barbies, I think I'm up on triple-figure amount by now.. But I don't have any Fashionistas :O I'm mostly found of Vintage Barbie, but I do like those Fashionistas =) I do have one Tonner doll too, I got it quite cheep, hope you can find a cheep one too one day =)
DeleteI don't really care if the Blythe is real or not, only that she looks like one, but I think the head is real, just the body that's fake.
Seguro que queda preciosa cuando termines de restaurarla.
ReplyDeleteI hope she will be beautiful again once I'm done with her =)
DeleteHannah so you decided to jump into the Blythe pool too? I love Blythe dolls. I think you will spoil yours because you are so creative and good at handcraft.
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting a Blythe for years now, but when my friend died over 5 years ago, I decided I would buy one, someday =) And finally that day is here =) I thought they had to be very expensive and that it was hard to buy online, but I'm learning =)
DeleteThank you, but I'm not so good at making clothes, so my Blythe might end up naked for a loooong while...
I get very inspired looking at your blog, you have wonderful dolls and clothes =)
Hi Hannah! I am totally unknown with Blythe dolls, so i can't help you with this problem, I am sorry. I think I would prefer the blue eyes, but that is for me personal ;)!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Ilona
Thanks Ilona =) I have always loved blue eyes. My brother have blue eyes, and me, brown eyed, was always a bit jealous, but now I like my brown eyes, but I'm glad my doll can have the blue eyes I never got ;)
DeleteGreetings lady!
ReplyDeleteOh I guess I like purple eyes! Why not?? She has a very angelic face almost snow white looking. I wonder what crafty wonders you will create for her?
Hugs!~J
Hi Jane! I hope I'll be able to fix so that I can switch the eye every now and then, with out having to unscrew her =)
DeleteI hope I will be able to make something for her, like clothes, but I'm not that good at clothes, I might just give her clothes my grandma sew for Barbie and Skipper at the 60's =)
Hi Hannah, I don't own a Blythe Doll and I don't think I'll make the jump because my family are scared of them LOL. But I do admire the nice photos collectors post about them online! Did you know many Blythe fans actually swap the original stiff body for a Licca's body which is more bendable? So don't worry about your doll if she has a fake body or even fake parts. It's fun to play with her anyway and to sew clothes for her etc. I love all her eye colors actually and her eyelids are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMy husband thinks this doll is ugly, her head and eyes are too big =) But I like her =) And my daughter do too.
DeleteYes, I know many people swap the body for a Licca body, but if I get a Licca doll, I want it like it is, with a head on ;) ( I have begun to really want one of these since I read about them on your blog) But a big thank you for the tip!
I think the Blythe legs should bend like an old BL Barbie, but these are very stiff. But I might find a new body for her one day =)
I like her dark hair with purple eyes. She is very cute and even if is not an original, if you like it, it's still a nice looking doll....I mean it's only a few parts missing that hopefully you can fix and no brand name. I know the disappointment, as you thought it was real, you didn't buy it as knowing that it was fake so maybe you will get one real sometime and then you will find yourself with 2 instead of one...good ending!! :) The open head, I have to say, it's kind of scary looking :) :) :) I wouldn't want her like that at night next to my bed!! :) :) :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, yes the open head is a bit scary =) I tried to hide it from my daughter, but she saw the picture, and looked at me like: what have you done!!! Then she just told me to fix the nice doll, now!
DeleteI hope you fixed it for your daughter and ............ for me!! :) :) :) Does she have a moon on one of her eyelids??
DeleteShe is still opened, I have to figure out how to open and close the eyes while the head is assembled... But I hide her from my daughter =)
DeleteThere is actually a hart on one of the eyelids.
Hi Hannah, I'm so glad you treated yourself to something you'd been wanting. Jane Cherie's comment was really informative. I didn't realize that the Blythe comes with a non-bending body. So yours might be original after all! But maybe, as she says, you'll have fun switching bodies, sewing clothes, etc. Congratulations on your fun birthday gift to yourself! xo Jennifer
ReplyDeleteThank you Jennifer! Hope the doll and I will have a lot of fun crafting together later =)
DeleteI do not know about this type of doll, but I've seen her around in blog world. Good for you, now it will be exciting to see all the clothes you have to do to for her.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Wyrna
Thank you Wyrna. I found a lot of old clothes for her, some that my grandma sewn, I'll try them on later =)
