I'm back =)

We went on a vacation for two weeks. My husband only had two weeks of vacation this year and as always we went to my mother-in-law in south Sweden. We took the car and made the loooong road trip. It's a bit sad that we live so far away from each other.. But these days we can always chat for free with skype =)
Any way, I didn't make any miniatures or read any miniature blogs while we were gone. My computer got to stay at home this year, but I did check some email and stuff on the phone =) But now I have lots of blog-catching-up to do... And miniatures to make, but I seem to have run out of creativity.. I have been very creative and made lots of things the last years, but right now I don't feel like doing anything.. especially not needle felt =( I hope this will change soon!

The day before the trip I was thinking of my Etsy shop, and if I should put it on hold for the vacation (but I didn't) And then, I got a custom order. I was thinking of removing that option, but I never go to it.. But I was thrilled, but soon I realized it was a bit to stressful for me, especially since I didn't have the wool colour the customer wanted, I offered to make it in another colour, but we ended up saying she needed to look for another seller..
After that I removed the option to make a custom request.. I do work fast under a bit of pressure, ( I finished the teddy bear in only one day, but I did have a babysitter that day, so I could work without a curious girl hanging over my shoulder all day =) ) but I get very anxious I wont be able to make it good enough for the customer. So I removed that "button" on my Etsy shop. I might offer custom orders in the future but for now I will only sell things I have actually already made and that people choose from a picture, that way I know that's the thing they want. But if anyone want something in particular don't be afraid to ask me =) I think it's a lot more pressure if someone make an "order" than if it's just a request by mail =)

Well, since I haven't been making any minis on the vacation I have nothing to show.. But I did make that teddy bear in the "wrong" colour, so here it is:
I was thinking of making teddy bears like this in lots of different colours and line them up in one photo, I think that would look cool. =) Maybe I will be able to make some more one day, when the inspiration gets back.
This bear is supposed to look a lot like the orange one I made before, but all my animals gets a bit different from the other, that makes them more unique, and I do like that, but some times I just want to "copy" what I have already made once, but that is just impossible!

I hope to be able to post a new tutorial soon, just need some technical help from my husband first.. so stay tuned.. ;)

Take care
Hannah

  2. Hi Hannah, It's so nice to hear from you! I love your blog's chatty, breezy style and always enjoy your posts. I don't know about you, but the excessive heat we've had here in Portland has messed with my creativity a bit too. I think of ideas but barely have the energy to carry them out! ;-) I like your new teddy bear and am glad you were able to take a nice vacation with your family. I'm looking forward to your visit on my blog and to seeing your next post! xo Jennifer

I love heat and I dislike rain and Fall, but I guess its a great season for staying inside making minis, so I hope miniatures will brighten up this Fall for me. And I'm quite exited to catching up on your and other blogs =)

  3. Good to have you back, I was already wondering about you... hope you've had a great time while on vacation and visiting your family. Yes, custom orders can be tricky... sound like a good decision that you put down this function. Your newest teddy is one cutie - and I bet your motivation will come back to you soon.

    1. Thank you Birgit! I had a good time down south and my daughter was very pleased to see her grandma. She took the trip very well and didn't complain about the long way, but we divided the trip in two days and stopped a lot and got to see many nice things along the way =) (even a dollhouse on a flee market, but I was on vacation, so I only looked at it a liiiittle while.. ;) )

  4. Welcome back! I understand your pain of living far away from family. I didn't know Sweden only offered 2 weeks vacation! I thought it would be more like in France and Germany. I have 10 paid vacation days a year and 10 holidays from the government. It's good that you don't have to feel stressed about producing a particular item. It's not easy accommodating customers when you have children around! Looking forward to see your blog posts again!

    1. Thanks Jane! Its "only" 600km but it takes us a whole day to travel and we have started to divide the trip over two days, and still it takes all day =) But we stop a lot, but using the train we could get there in a few hours, if the train goes like it should, but it never does these days.. I wish we had some fast teletransportation or something like in the sci-fi movies ;)

My husband was unemployed for a long time and only got a job this year, and he was employed for 6 month and now another 6 month, so he hasn't "worked up" his vacation days yet.. He only had 6 days now, but he got to take some "parental leave" too (we get several days to stay home from work, when we get a child, and he has saved a lot of these days to take now and then). But I think he should have like 5 weeks vacation if he has worked for a year.. I'm bad at these kind a things since I never have worked myself... But I hope we get a longer vacation next year and that they will employ him "for real" soon..
(Sorry I just can't manage to answer shortly, I just have to write and write.. ;) )

  5. Welcome back and it is nice that your break was for a vacation. The heat can make it hard to feel creative and having a little one is also an extra challenge. I love your little bear even if he is the wrong color ;-) It's nice to hear from you again.

    1. Thanks Lisa! I might get back my creativity as soon as I accept not doing anything, I get a little restless not doing miniatures, I just have to keep my hands busy all the time =) But I hope to clean the house first before I start digging in to miniatures again ;)

  6. Hi Hannah! Glad to see your new post. I hope you had a good road trip and had good time with family. I understand the stress of completing a custom order. But I think this brown (or grey?) teddy looks great! I like how he looks up. What a cute face expression!

    1. Thank You! I like doing the faces, to get different expressions, I could keep doing heads all the time, but I think they look better with a body too, so I force myself to complete them, with bodies too =)

    1. I'm glad I'm not the only one that has a break right now =) I use to have very long periods between minimaking, but the last years I have been making something mini-related almost every day, (sometimes just a few stitches on a mini-carpet, but still..) so it's a bit empty not doing anything.. I do have more time for cleaning and stuff, but how fun is that ;)

  8. Welcome back Hannah, Been there, with the lack of creativity (currently there :D ) It'll come back, don't worry!! I couldn't bear the pressure of custom work. I'm a lazy person myself...... :D Hope you had a good holiday! Definitely make a line up of teddies!!

I press myself a bit too hard and always wants perfection, and end up thinking I didn't do well enough.. so it's for the best not doing custom orders right now. When I "just" do normal what ever I want stuff I can always put it aside for a bit if I'm not totally pleased with it.. and do something else for awhile, that's a bit hard whit custom orders..

  9. Having a nice holiday is a great way to fill up energies. I'm sure you will more than make up for the time you haven't been crafting.
Take things easy and enjoy your family.

  10. Welcome back! It's always nice to get away from the everyday! I'm sure your inspiration will return as soon as you are rested from your long trip. The same happens to me after vacation. But the urge to create always comes back strong. So don't worry!

    1. Thank you Caroline! I have had a sudden urge to clean the house instead of making minis.. Good for us all, but I start thinking it would be more fun to start the miniature-making again, but I have to finish the big cleaning I started first =) It's like when I make minis, I start big, and end up all bored and want to do something else for awhile, leaving lots of unfinished projects lying everywhere ;)

  13. Dear Hannah! I am so happy that you have had a nice vacation!
I haven't also done miniatures during the whole summer time. And I feel so quilty for the swap with you... I am so sorry, but this summer has been quite buzy!
I am just asking you once more, if we could complete this swapidea of ours by deciding to make Advent/Christmas Swap together? I would suggest four parcel exchanges, for example the days: 1st December, 8th.December, 16th. December and 24.December. ! You can decide which days! What do you think?
